Classification of MHC Molecules!

Hello readers...
Today here we will be learning about MHC complexes and its broader classification.
No, MHC doesn't stands for Celebrity Mile High Club (not at least here).
Here, MHC stands for Major Histocompatibility Complex..Zing!!

What are they??

Lamest definition would be - a tightly linked cluster of genes.
Function: Role in intercellular recognition and in discrimination between self and nonself.
Development of both humoral and cell mediated immune responses.
Also as mentioned in the T cell lymphocytes post, T cell require MHC molecules for                           antigen presentation.

Yeah, quite a lot of work :p
Since MHCs are known to have role in antigen presenting, it partly determines response of an individual against an infection, and also helps in immunity development.

Important points to literally Memorize!!

  1. Collection of genes arrayed within a long continuous stretch of DNA.
  2. Humans - Chromosome 6 and Mice -  Chromosome 17.
  3. Referred as HLA Complex in humans and H-2 Complex in mice.

Here's the general classification:

Hope it helps you all
Be amazing!!
Lots of love
