Hello Everyone ,
Many times we get confused between Eukaryotes and prokaryotes , though they look similar they aren't so . The distinction between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is considered to be the most important distinction among groups of organisms.
Prokaryotes are organisms without a cell nucleus or any other membrane bound organells .Most are Unicellular, but some are multicellular.
Eukaryotes are organisms which contains nucleus and whose cells are organized into complex structure by internal membrane and cytoskeleton .
The basic similarities between these two are :
The difference between the structure of prokaryotes and eukaryotes is so great that it is considered to be most important distinction among groups of organisms.
So here I will writing some basic difference between them
Characteristics Prokaryotes Eukaryotes
Size small Large
Occurrence Bacteria and Blue green algae Plants and Animal
Nucleus and Nuclear memb Absent Present
DNA circular without proteins Linear with protiens (Chromatin)
Ribosomes 70 S 80 S
Motility by rigid Flagellum by flexible cilia or flagellum
Reproduction Always asexual Asexual or sexual
No of Chromosome one many
Plasmid Present Absent
Mitotic apparatus Absent Present
Mesosomes Present Absent
Respiration mostly strict anaerobic all aerobic some facultative
Metabolic pathway Variation same for all
Cell division Binary Fission Mitosis
Cell cycle Short Long
protein synthesis Transcription and Translation Transcription in nucleus Translation in cytoplasm
in cytoplasm
Thank you

The basic similarities between these two are :
- Both the cell contains Plasma membrane,Lipid bilayer Ribosomes, Cytoplasm, Vacuoles and vesicles
- They both are membrane bound
- Both contain Genetic material (DNA and RNA)
- Both are made of Carbohydrate , Proteins, Nucleic acid, and Vitamins
- Both need energy for survival
