Mixed  Acid
  Fermentation

Butandiol Fermentation

Hello everyone,
Today with Staph you will be learning how to distinguish between mixed acid fermentation and butandiol pathways.
Hope it helps :)
Mixed acid fermentation
Yield: 3 ATPs per glucose molecule
 |
Butandiol fermentation
2 ATPs per glucose molecule. |
|
Only one decarboxylation
reaction is observed in the pathway catalysed by formate
  hydrogen lyase.
 |
Three decarboxylation
reaction are observed in the pathway catalysed by formate
  hydrogen lyase, α-aceto-lactate
  synthase, α-aceto-lactate
  decarboxylase.
 |
|
Acidic end products-causes
reduction in pH of the medium to 4.5 from near neutral.
 |
Alcoholic end products-pH of the
  medium remains to 6.
 |
|
Organisms following this pathway
gives a strong methyl red test
 |
Organisms following this pathway gives a
  very strong vogus prausker test
 |
|
End products-Succinate, formate,
lactate, acetate, ethanol, CO2 and H2.
 |
End products-           lactate, formate, ehtanol, 2,3 butandiol, CO2
  and H2.
